Location

The conference will be held in the Hotel Forum Resort Doña Brígida  Golf & Spa, Salamanca, Spain

The City:

 Population: 180.000.

Location: Mid West of Spain (in the Castile-Leon region).

The people of Salamanca speak the purest Spanish, which makes the city very popular for learning the language.

It is the home of the world’s second oldest university. It receives about 50.000 students every year, of which approximately 5.000 come from abroad.

Salamanca was declared a UNESCO Human Heritage Site and is known as “La Dorada” -the golden city- because of the golden glow of its sandstone buildings. There is a special light in the city, especially at sunset.

The city of Salamanca, founded by the Romans in around 1200 A.D., is particularly unique thanks to its historical and cultural legacy.

It is a very attractive place to visit if you are looking for cultural values, want to enjoy night life and learn a bit of Spanish.

Salamanca is located in the mid-west area of Spain in the province of Castilla y León, 2-3 hours drive from Madrid and 1 hour away from the Portuguese border.

Salamanca is exceptional and unique. UNESCO has recognised this fact, giving its old town the World Heritage designation. There is a long list of monuments, houses and palaces to see in Salamanca.

Salamanca is famous in the world for its culture and for its student atmosphere.

Tourist attractions in Salamanca are mainly heritage sites and monuments.

The University Quarter - The University of Salamanca is one of the oldest in the world, founded by King Alphonse IX. In the University's interior certainly the huge Library  of 160.000 volumes is the main attraction. In the old Universitary Hospital you may visit the beautiful Renaissance court with its typical salmantinian arcades. The Old Library is interesting for its impressive fresco-painting "The Heaven of Salamanca".
Other important buildings in this quarter are the Renaissance palace Palacio Anaya and the famous Casa de las Conchas, landmark of the town. Another sight is the baroque Jesuit monastery La Clerecía, of 18th century, with a huge cupola and an altar covered by gold.
At Plaza del Poeta Iglesias is to be seen the church Iglesia de San Martin, founded in 12th century, with its beautiful Romanesque style northern portal. Other parts have been added lateron in plateresque and baroque styles, respectively

A key place in the city is without any doubt its Plaza Mayor, the central square where people meet for a coffee or lunch in the sunny terraces, during the day, or for going out partying, at night.
Also worth a visit are: the Cathedral - consists of two temples joined together-the Old Cathedral (built during 12th-13th centuries in Romanesque style) and the New Cathedral (built during 16th century); and the Museum “Casa Lys” right behind it with its Art Nouveau and Art Deco collections.

Most of the city centre is pedestrianised inviting tourists to walk and discover the heart of the city without the noise of traffic. In the centre you will find museums, theatres, cinemas, shops, and good restaurants, where meat is usually the star.

Salamanca is not only one of the safest cities in Spain, allowing you to walk without worries at any time of the day, but it’s also very charming and sociable. The Cafeterias and bars are always full of people chatting while having a coffee or a hot chocolate. Because Salamanca is so interesting and there is always something to do, it’s always full of people.
